Combine intuitive mark making, the rambling abstraction of words, with some generous texture and you`re getting close to to the heart of Samantha Gardiner`s artwork and what lights her up!
Her technique of adding and removing layers of mixed mediums, including; ash, paint, plaster, wax, collage and her homemade charcoal sticks (made from her own orchard prunings!) result in a rich painterly understory that adds depth to her celebration of line, movement and subject matter — be it representational or abstract.
Samantha`s art has a distinct energy and style that gives voice to how she interprets and responds to everyday life. She spends her days enjoying nature`s vibe and honing her art practice from her studio in the Macedon Ranges, traditionally known as Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country, Victoria, Australia.
“I love living a creative life — it`s how I best express myself. Staying curious about my environment and how I respond to it through my art, feeds my soul with the perfect energy I need to navigate this amazing adventure”
My work is quite tactile, filled with textures, marks, creases and crinkles that just begged to be touched — I don`t mind people feeling my work, in fact I encourage it. Experience my art with all your senses if you get a chance and if you like the smell of bees wax then you might enjoy a sniff of the wax I use to seal the surface of my art! — my work is precious, but hey it’s not a Picasso or a VanGogh!
I’m in love with the process of creating, of being so absorbed in the moment that nothing else exists or matters. The energy I experience when in my element is addictive and fulfils me like nothing else on earth.
I feel lucky to be living a life grounded in creativity.
